Mit 47 Jahren ist das Irish Folk Festival (IFF) Europas älteste Tournee mit jährlicher Kontinuität. Wie schafft man es, so viele musikalische Trends und wirtschaftliche Aufs und Abs zu überdauern? ?Überdauern? ist eigentlich das falsche Wort, weil das IFF gerade wieder an Popularität gewinnt. Und das trotz eines negativen Medien Umfelds. So haben z.B. Radios und TV-Sender mit hohen Einschaltquoten alle Art von Weltmusik verbannt. Trotzdem finden die Menschen ihren Weg zum IFF. Die Fans haben verblüffende Ähnlichkeit mit Zugvögeln, die über größte Entfernungen immer wieder an den Ort zurückfinden, an dem sie flügge geworden sind. Was macht diese starke Bindung zwische Fans und IFF aus? Es lässt sich auf einen ganz einfachen Satz bringen: Come as a visitor ? leave as a friend. Diese Philosophie steht hinter der Metamorphose, die den Käufer einer Konzertkarte zum Freund werden lässt. Das IFF ist mehr als nur ein Konzert. Es ist eine Community. Die Besucher kommen nicht nur, weil sie spannende Musik hören werden. Sie kommen, weil sie an den Festivalabenden auch Gleichgesinnte treffen, mit denen sie sich austauschen können. Durch das Festival sind viele Freundschaften entstanden. Zwischen Musikern und Fans, Musikern und Musikern (viele tolle CDs sind der Beweis dafür), den Machern des Festivals und den Fans, aber auch zwischen Fans und Fans. Man wird ein Teil einer ganz feinen Community und sieht sich nicht nur einmal im Jahr beim Festival sondern auch über das Jahr. In einer Welt, die leider immer mehr in fragwürdige Social Media abwandert und in der Freundschaften virtuell gepflegt werden, machen wir es beim IFF immer noch persönlich. Das ist ein Teil unserer Lebensqualität. In this book, historian Frédéric Barbier provides an important new economic, political and social analysis of the first great 'media revolution' in the West: Gutenberg's invention of the printing press in the mid fifteenth century.
