These innovative constellations stimulate fresh research in many areas of thought and practice. The contributors to this volume respond to the proposition of an "Anthropocene turn" from the perspective of diverse research fields, including history of science, philosophy, environmental humanities and political science as well as literary, art and media studies. Altogether, the collection reveals to which extent the Anthropocene concept challenges deep-seated assumptions across disciplines. It invites readers to explore the wealth of scholarly perspectives on the Anthropocene as well as unexpected inter- and transdisciplinary connections.

This book presents state-of-the-art works and systematic reviews in the emerging field of computational intelligence (CI) in electronic health care. The respective chapters present surveys and practical examples of artificial intelligence applications in the areas of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and affective computing, machine learning, big health data and visualization analytics, computer vision and medical image analysis. The book also addresses new and emerging topics in CI for health care such as the utilization of Social Media (SM) and the introduction of new intelligent paradigms in the security and privacy domains, which are critical for the health sector. The chapters, while of course not exhaustively addressing all the possible aspects of the aforementioned areas, are indicative of the dynamic nature of interdisciplinary research being pursued. Accordingly, the book is intended not only for researchers in the respective fields, but also for medical and administrative personnel working in the health sector, as well as managers and stakeholders responsible for making strategic decisions and defining public health policies.

The use of data mining techniques to improve information system services is an ongoing research area that has gained immense attention. Academic libraries in institutions of higher learning are not left out in the quest to continuously support and provide meaningful services to their growing user base whose dependence on reliable services has increased exponentially. However, the proliferation of e-libraries, social media, commercial information providers and new publishing paradigms which seeks to provide free scholarly materials for reuse, revision, remix and redistribution challenge the academic library's role as a pacesetter. This puts the latter under pressure to evolve and yield better ways of leading scholarship and maintaining patronage from everyone in the academic environment. Thus, this book reviews a set of factors influencing book lending among patrons and also discusses a data mining technique called association rule mining (ARM). It employs the use of Apriori ARM algorithm to build a recommender system which gives the academic libraries a leverage over its rivals as seen in the research findings and user acceptance testing results.

Technological evolutions, principally developments social technologies, have introduced new marketing paradigms, such as viral marketing. Viral marketing offers marketing practitioners significant opportunities to reach target audiences in a credible and attention grabbing way. Reaching students in tertiary level education has for marketers become a challenging undertaking. Traditional on-campus marketing communication tools have become fragmented and cluttered. Students frequently disregard these media, or, fail to become aware of them as they filter out marketing paraphernalia from their consciousness due to the incessant proliferation of organisations targeting them. Students have rapidly adopted social technologies, and they use these media to enrich existing offline personal relationships that they have with friends. Students have a predilection to forward messages to friends, and value messages they receive from friends. The quintessential viral marketing campaign will enable the on-campus marketer to rapidly disseminate a marketing message through electronic word-of-mouth or, word-of-mouse , and ultimately generate product, or service, awareness among student bodies.
